The secrets of London: 5 unique experiences that GR8 can create
“Show me what you can do,” said one demanding client with a glint in his eye. “If I wanted to see London like a visiting royal, what’s the best you can offer?” Challenge accepted, this is what we set up…
The UK capital is a constant in the movies of the world’s most famous British spy, and GR8 has arranged a once-in-a-lifetime Bond experience that includes combat arms, technical gadgets and defensive driving. In the evening, guests get the Casino Royale treatment (minus Le Chiffre’s bleeding eye) when they are invited to take part in a competitive poker tournament.
Another activity we have arranged that Mr Bond would approve of begins with a private guided visit of Christie’s auction house – Christies being one of the UK’s most venerable names in fine arts, antiques and luxury watches, founded in 1766. A private dinner, led by the International Wine Department, wraps up a truly memorable day.
The ultimate Downton Abbey experience
Following a short train ride through the leafy English countryside to the town of Newbury in Royal Berkshire, we arrive at the 5,000 acre estate of Highclere Castle, built in 1679 and the setting for Downton Abbey.
The Earl and Countess who own the castle have handed over the keys for the day: our private ‘buy out’ means we get to glide down the grand staircase just like Lady Mary did on her wedding day and stroll around the property as if it were our own. Lunch is served in the formal dining room and is followed by a guided tour of the estate.
A Blackadder feast
Followers of UK comedy remember Blackadder as the sharpest, funniest BBC show of the 1980s, and we have arranged for cast members to join us for a gastronomic Medieval feast at the Tower of London.
This 1,000-year-old London landmark founded by William The Conqueror is where Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh were once imprisoned, and our day includes the chance to see the world-famous Crown Jewels for a private, after-hours visit.
A private lunch with one of the UK’s best chefs
Heston Blumenthal’s approach to food is legendary – a champion of molecular gastronomy, he creates dishes that are as much a work of art as they are a treat for the senses.
His celebrated, three Michelin-starred Fat Duck restaurant is housed in a 16th century building an hour west of London, and we have arranged for the man himself to look after our private dining experience. Did we mention that earlier in the day we have a private tour of the neighboring Windsor Castle, the world’s oldest and largest occupied royal residence?
Palaces, performers and posh shops
We have arranged for GR8 guests to walk in the footsteps of royals at Kensington Palace, the former home of Princess Diana, and enjoy a fairytale gala dinner at the palace with live music provided by award-winning classical musicians.
We have also pulled a few strings so that our guests can enjoy the celebrated Harrods department store in a way that very few people get to experience. We have full access to the palatial department store before regular opening hours; a private tour of Harrods’ most storied areas; a traditional afternoon tea in the Harrods Tea Room and Champagne on the rooftop terrace.
GR8’s Ultimate Royal London Experience is available to clients from April to November, and can be further tailored to guests’ personal preferences. To find out more, please contact us at experience@GR8-group.com.
